Fall Reset Backpacking Retreat


What: Join us for our women’s empowerment backpacking retreat where we will Fall into Reset, learn to conquer our fears, and uncover the most aligned version of ourselves surrounded by the beautiful canyons of Escalante Utah. This retreat includes 3 nights/4 days of backpacking in Coyote Gulch Canyon which features towering canyon walls, stream beds, waterfalls, pictographs, natural arches and bridges through gorgeous red rock country.

When: November 7 - November 11, 2024

Where: Coyote Gulch, Utah

Who: This is a guided retreat where you will join six other women to embark on the expedition of a lifetime. This retreat is guided by Deanna Kleinhenz, wilderness guide & founder of Expedition Courage & Madeline Perez, life coach & founder of Resilient Mindset Coaching LLC. What to Expect: In addition to hiking through the beautiful canyons of Utah and learning how to be a self-sufficient backpacker, you will join 6 other women to bond with as you embark on your self-discovery journey and participate in group coaching sessions designed to transform your life and teach you the tools to be in the flow, find alignment, conquer your fears, and empower you to uncover the truest, most inspired version of yourself.

Group coaching sessions include:

-Stress management 

-Energy work

-Soul restoration

-Movement

-Mantra

-Goal setting

-Self-sabotage = self love 

-Belief system + programming

Starting at $1900* depending on your chosen tier and package.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Your hosts Deanna and Madeline will pick you up from SLC International Airport and provide a group shuttle to a night of rustic glamping where you will settle in, get acquainted with your new friends and enjoy a welcome dinner. We will have a general orientation to go over our objectives for the backpacking trip followed by a journaling exercise.

Day 2-5: We will drive to the trailhead and begin our 3 night 4 day backpacking trip through Coyote Gulch in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. Over the next 4 days we will continue to incorporate backpacking skills training as well as transformational life coaching. On day 5 we hike to the trailhead and then head back to SLC.

Included in Trip:

  • Shuttle to and from SLC International Airport. 

(Plan to arrive no later than 1:00 PM on 11/7 and plan to book your flight home no earlier than 3:00 PM on 11/11)

  • Transportation to Trailhead.

  • 4 week fitness plan to train for our backpacking trip.

  • 2 pre-trip “zoom style” live workshops that will include one-on-one coaching, outdoor education and pre-trip orientation.

  • 2 experienced women outdoor professional guides/empowerment coaches to lead you on this journey.

  • All meals for the trip (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.)

  • Yoga flows, meditation and mindfulness exercises led by our wellness coach.

  • Outdoor skills sessions including LNT training, how to pack your pack, proper weight distribution, backcountry cooking, trip planning, basic navigation and map reading and more!

  • All backpacking gear including tent, backpack, sleeping pad, sleeping bag and group gear. 

  • Permits for multi-night use in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

Not Included in Trip:

  • Flights or travel to Utah.

  • Personal clothing, toiletries or other gear not listed. (We will provide a comprehensive list to help you pack for the backpacking trip.)

Coyote Gulch Backpacking Trip

  • Moderate Difficulty

  • ~16 miles over 3 days, distance may increase with additional side quests.

  • Hiking through stream beds, narrow canyon walls in beautiful red rock country.


Essential Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be open and motivated to try new things.

  • Be willing to exude expedition behavior and have a team mentality.

  • Display compassion, respect and open-mindedness towards all.

  • Be willing to engage in coaching sessions and show up to all 4 pre-trip zoom sessions.

  • Have the ability to hike with a 30-40 lb pack carrying backpacking gear, food and at least 3 liters of water over varying terrain.

  • Have the ability to have a third point of contact for balance purposes such as with hand(s) on a boulder or rock to ascend or descend.

  • Have the ability to squeeze through an 18 inch crack sideways.

  • Possess average strength, endurance and balance to travel across uneven terrain.

  • Engage in outdoor skills clinics and exercise a willingness to learn about backpacking.

  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with trip leaders and the other program participants your needs and/or concerns on an individual or group level.

  • Be able to understand and follow guidelines in any indoor or backcountry setting as a group or individually while frequently independent of supervision.

  • Be willing to share responsibility for daily backpacking tasks such as filtering water, setting up camp, helping with meals, etc…

  • Participation in activities that are designed to provoke personal development and may be outside your comfort zone.

  • Following gear protocol and recommendations.

  • Traveling on rugged terrain and wading through water.

  • Act reliably to minimize risk even if not directly supervised.

  • Remain alert and focused for several hours while in the backcountry.

  • Get oneself in and out of a vehicle independently.

  • The ability to be a passenger in a vehicle driving on a bumpy dirt road.

  • Understand and recall hazards and risks previously pointed out by trip leaders.

  • Respond appropriately in the event of unexpected challenges such as inclement weather, itinerary adjustments, medical emergencies and unfamiliar surroundings.

There will also be 3 zoom sessions prior to our adventure to include one on one coaching, group coaching and outdoor education. Exact dates tbd.
